Meta ended support for their apps on any iPhones that far back.

You will need a newer (used, refurb) or newer iPhone, and can use the Meta Instagram website pending hardware replacement.

Your iPhone 6, or iPhone 6 Plus, or yet earlier iPhone, is too old for iOS 13 and newer, and too old for the current Instagram app.

Contact Instagram.

For those that have been following this thread, there has been a recent iOS version support change for Instagram app. The Instagram app had previously required iOS 13.4, and the most current app version now requires iOS 14.0.
