For those that have been following this thread, there has been a recent iOS version support change for Instagram app. The Instagram app had previously required iOS 13.4, and the most current app version now requires iOS 14.0.

The latest app version of Instagram requires iOS 13.4 or later.

Your iPhone is a fossil.

It might still work fine for your needs, but its capabilities and performance are insufficient for newer iOS and for newer apps.

App vendors spending money to keep newer apps working and tested on older iPhone and iPad, and with performance somewhat usable on older iPhone and iPad, or with the app re-worked to some subset of features still able to run on an older iPhone or iPad, just isn’t happening. You won’t be happy with the results, and it’ll cost the app vendor more to provide these unhappy results.

Your options for access to apps requiring newer iOS is a newer (used, refurb) or new iPhone.
