As Instagram requires an iPhone 6s or newer, are you using an iPhone 6s or newer? If not, you’ll need a newer iPhone, or will need to use the website.

If you are using an iPhone 6s or newer, ensure it is updated. Settings > General > Software Update

Sorry, Instagram management, in their wisdom, decided that they did not want to support 8 1/2 year old and older phones. So you will have to get a newer phone if you want Instagram. This is their choice, not Apple’s, so you will have to contact Instagram support to see if you can change their mind.

It might be possible for users that previously acquired the app to download an older version (and I don’t have a way to check that), but new downloads require iOS 13.4 or iPadOS 13.4.

An iPhone 6s or newer is needed.

It might be possible for users that previously acquired the app to download an older version from their app store previous purchases (and I don’t have a way to check that), but new app downloads require iOS 13.4 or iPadOS 13.4. And that means an iPhone 6s or newer is required.
