Nope. Not happening.
Meta ended support for their apps on any iPhones that far back.
You will need a newer (used, refurb) or newer iPhone, and can use the Meta Instagram website pending hardware replacement.
Or you can stop using Meta apps and services entirely, including Instagram.

unfortunately, the developers of Instagram stop at supporting iOS 12 and iPhone 6. You’ll need to get an iPhone 6s or newer to download Facebook, or Instagram. But here’s the thing, WhatsApp in messenger also on by that same company, why haven’t supports the end of the dance apps yet on iOS 12?

App vendors spending money to keep newer apps working and tested on older iPhone and iPad, and with performance somewhat usable on older iPhone and iPad, or with the app re-worked to some subset of features still able to run on an older iPhone or iPad, just isn’t happening. Your options for access to apps requiring newer iOS is a newer (used, refurb) or new iPhone.

As Instagram requires an iPhone 6s or newer, are you using an iPhone 6s or newer? If not, you’ll need a newer iPhone, or will need to use the website.
If you are using an iPhone 6s or newer, ensure it is updated. Settings > General > Software Update

Sorry, Instagram management, in their wisdom, decided that they did not want to support 8 1/2 year old and older phones. So you will have to get a newer phone if you want Instagram. This is their choice, not Apple’s, so you will have to contact Instagram support to see if you can change their mind.
