I paid for additional iCloud storage . . . why is it not showing up?

I just upgraded my iCloud storage plan to 200 GB.

I only want certain folders copied onto it for backup. So attempting to drag-and-drop.

However, when I try copying files into the iCloud icon on my sidebar, it says I don't have enough room. In fact, it says I only have 1.5 GB available.

See attached pict. What gives?

Try restarting your Mac or sign out/in to iCloud. The 1.5 GB is the current size of the items in the folder, not how much room you have left. It's possible that you're moving files that will exceed your space available.

Thanks muguy! You were right. I didn’t realize that’s what the “sidebar iCloud” was showing.

Next question (since I’m new to iCloud -- I’ve used external drives my whole life). It looks like iCloud stores both on the cloud AND locally on my hard drive.

One of my goals was to save space on my drive. How to get a file JUST onto iCloud and off my computer?

i.e., Can I use iCloud like an external drive?

I paid for additional iCloud storage . . . why is it not showing up?
