Contact lists on laptop vs. iCloud

I have an older MacBook Pro (early 2014) that is up-to-date with software.

This problem concerns Contacts and what iCloud does/does not cover insofar as syncing.

On the Pro, I can create "smart" lists which are named and appear as one would expect. I use a "smart" list to create mailing labels.

When viewing Contacts on my iPhone or iPad, individual Contacts do sync between the Pro and iCloud. However, I cannot see or access the "smart" lists via a device or when logged into the iCloud website. ...nor is there a Contacts icon when I log in to iCloud via the web.

Is this as designed? Everything possible on the MacBook Pro syncs to iCloud that I can see....

Thanks

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.7

Hi SFguy,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand that you're unable to access Smart Lists created in Contacts on your Mac via iCloud or your iPhone.

Smart Lists are a feature of the macOS and aren't included in iCloud or the iOS. You can learn more about Smart Lists for Contacts here: Create and change Smart Lists in Contacts on Mac - Apple Support

"Create and change Smart Lists in Contacts on Mac

You can create a Smart List that automatically organizes contacts into lists, based on criteria you specify. For example, you can create a Smart List called Book Club that includes any contact card with “book” in the Note field. Whenever you add or remove “book” in that field, the Smart List is automatically updated to include or exclude those contacts."
