How can a photo in Photos library edited with Affinity Photo be stored back in Photos?

Used the 'Edit with >' function and chose Affinity Photo.

Did the edits but when hitting save or closed, the edited image is not passed back to Photos.

Had to export to JPEG and reimport manually...

Also tried closing and reopening Photos...

Is there any way to make this more seamless?

The size of photos library with many originals My question has to do with how does editing in photos affect the size of the library. It is my understanding that when making edits of a photo in the photos, a copy of the original photo is stored within the application. (Even a simple rotation) Does this process have the effect of doubling the file size of each photo that has an original? And if it does, is there a way to see the file size before and after editing? I normally export all new photos for editing and then reimport them to avoid having an original copy that may unnecessarily inflate the photo library size.

How to import photos from iPhone only in intended aspect ratio? When taking photos on an iPhone in a cropped format (Square or 16:9), does anyone know of a way to stop the native 4:3 images also being pulled through when importing? If I connect using USB and import with Preview, both the native 4:3 image and cropped images come through (as "IMG_...HEIC" and "IMG_E...HEIC"). Since I also take photos in native 4:3 format, I can't just simply order by filename and delete the native photos. I've tried using the Photos app, since I've got it synced in iCloud. However, if you export photos in their unmodified HEIC format, you only get the native aspect ratio. If you copy/paste, it actually copies the HEIC photo in the intended aspect ratio, which is great, but with a gobbledegook file name (e.g. "C22E9606-2463-44FC-AFCA-1ADE3FBCF1BC_1_201_a.HEIC". So, that almost solves the problem, but I'm not sure if I can live with that mess. Now, I appreciate Apple's intention in letting you keep the native non-cropped format, and that might be really great for some people, but for my workflow it's driving me crazy. Does anyone know of a way of making it so it only stores/imports the photo in the chosen aspect ratio? Or, failing that, is there another camera app which gives you this functionality? Any help would be much appreciated!

There are two steps. Save it in Affinity (it will have a crazy Photos file name, and you won't see where it goes--a secret place inside Photos), but then also hit "Save Changes" in Photos:

I haven't used Affinity, but I'm pretty sure it works like GraphicConverter.

I haven't seen the Save Changes button, although it worked immediately today after hitting save in Affinity! Must've been having a moment
