SE iPhone touch screen insensitive or incorrect spelling of what I am typing

I have an iPhone SE and am having problems typing a message. The screen is either insensitive to my touch or it types in something other than what I intended. This recently started happening the last week. Is anyone else having this problem and has a solution?

iPhone SE, iOS 16

Hi ms5053,

The following steps address what you're describing specifically, and may provide a solution:

"If your screen is too sensitive or responds intermittently to touch.

  1. Restart your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Make sure that your screen is clean and free of any debris or water.
  3. Disconnect any Lightning or USB-C accessories. If your screen works after removing an accessory, try using a different outlet, cable, or charger.
  4. Remove any cases or screen protectors."

You can find these steps along with other information that may be helpful, here: If the screen isn't working on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If you have followed the steps correctly and you still have the issue, let us know if you get any specific alerts or error messages when trying, as those may help us determine what might be causing the issue.

We also recommend keeping your iPhone updated so you are running the most optimized version of the iOS.
