I noticed that at the bottom corners of the macbook pro 16 2021, there are two strong magnetic fields probably due to the speakers. Does anyone know if they can negatively interfere with portable hard drives resting on the mac? I find it strange that no one has this problem.

Doubtful, but I would never place anything on the laptop itself as you may accidentally damage the laptop. Plus with rotating media (aka hard drives), you want them on a solid surface otherwise they will become damaged from the vibrations. An SSD does not have any such issues as an SSD is all electronic.
if you think that might be problem, don't put them there.
