When adding a new contact now my default related name list is only showing 3 options where previously I’ve added many contacts and been able to include a long list of related persons.
how can I fix this so that my default is the long list option?

Hi Gena_D. Thank you for taking the time to respond. What you typed I am already aware of and had previously been using the feature on all my contacts because that is how they came up under "add related", mother being the 1st option then I could go in and change it as well as create custom ones. Which I had been doing all along. BUT, one day that just stopped happening. All of a sudden I only had 3 options (manager, assistant, spouse). I DID DISCOVER HOW TO CORRECT THE DEFAULT (settings-contacts-default account - then changed my option from Outlook to iCloud. Then when creating a NEW Contact, I now again get the full list of "add related" options, including the ones I custom created. HOWEVER, for any "contacts" I added while I was having the issue - I can't figure out how to correct it - except by delete the contact AND then add them again (since changing my contacts-default account to iCloud), with the full "add related" list now available to me.

When you are creating a Contact on your iPhone, you can tap the Edit button once done and it will bring up the listing of editable options for that Contact. Under the Related Name section, you can tap the "add related name" button and this will bring up one option for you to select from. For example, it might suggest 'mother'. When you tap 'mother' in blue font, that will show all of the possible relationships you can choose from, along with a custom options to create your own.

We understand. To correct those contacts you would need to create them again if you aren't seeing the options that you should see to correct it.

Thanks K_Faith. Such a pain. And so weird. I have no idea what happened to change the default to only the 3 options. BUT at least I got it sorted and am good to go.
