iMac surge protection

Everything I read indicates computers and storage equipment should be protected with a minimum surge capacity of 2,000 joules and recommend 3,000. I have an APC UPS that I use with my iMac assuming it provided adequate surge protection but it's specification indicates it provides 340 Joules. Does the UPS by its nature provide adequate surge protection?

I recommend asking APC directly. They have been in the business of power management a long time .
