(How) Does "Last Played" and "Plays" actually work on Music?

I'm trying to understand how, if at all, the "Last Played" and "Plays" fields for songs works with Music.

Sometimes—but only when played on my computer—these fields get updated.

My assumption/expectation is that no matter where I play my Music songs (i.e., iPhone, HomePod, Watch, computer, even the Music app on my Samsung TV) that this data would (eventually) be synced and updated everywhere.

I ask because I'd love to have a "not played recently" playlist to ensure I get around my music library more. But this is impossible without the "Last Played" field being properly updated.

So...does this work? Do I not understand how it works?

MacBook Air, macOS 13.2

Hi christopher_cuilla,

Thanks for posting here in Apple Support Communities. Let's make sure that you have Sync Library enabled on all your devices as this should address the issue you're facing.

Check this out: Use Sync Library to access your music library across your devices

Let us know if this helps.

Thanks.
