Email Sync Issue

My Gmail account is set up in the Mail section of my iPhone. The emails are all read on my iPhone however when I log into my Gmail account online, I'm seeing a few hundred unread emails.

The syncing is set up it's just not working properly (it used to be fine until a couple of weeks ago).

Any suggestions?

We understand that your Gmail emails don’t appear to be syncing with Gmail. We are happy to help.


Are you emails set up as IMAP or POP.? We are asking because this can affect if the emails are showing read  via the Mail app and webmail. Have you made any changes to your Gmail account recently?


Please remove the email account and set it up again using the steps here: If you can’t send email on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

"Remove your email account and set it up again

  1. On your computer, sign in to your email provider’s website. Make sure that all of your email is there or make sure that your email is saved somewhere other than on your iOS or iPadOS device.
  2. On your device, go to Settings > Mail, then tap Accounts.
  3. Tap the email account that you want to remove.
  4. Tap Delete Account.
  5. Add your account again.

If the steps in this article don't help, contact your email service provider for more information."
