Why Did Quick Time Stop Recording?

I wanted to record a two-hour show, so I set up QT to do a screen recording. But when I checked back in the stream had stopped, and a message appeared on the QT screen, saying that iCloud didn't have enough space to save the entire document, so it stopped at 90 minutes into it! Huh? Why would what QT is recording be simultaneously saved to iCloud, and as a "document", on top of it? What's going on here?

Hmmm... At first I could find no preferences, but now I see it at the bottom of the window, when a new screen recording file is open. Mine was set to Quicktime, as the "save to" location, and I don't even know what that means, as I have no file (other than the app) labeled Quicktime. And I never had a long recording stop, especially due to not enough room in iCloud. So I changed the save to, to my standard download folder, which isn't save to iCloud, and bought the 50 gig level of iCloud, so nothing like that should happen again, as I only have 3 gigs saved in it now. Thanks.
