What would be an automation script to have:
1. my motion sensor detect motion while I am out of the house and then
2. have it text me that there is an intruder in my home.
Mac mini 2018 or later
The Shortcuts app might work as it can take action triggered by a Homekit motion sensor. However you cannot send an SMS message to yourself so I have sent an email instead. See the example below (it still needs some work but demonstrates the concept).
You will need to learn more about Shortcuts for this to work.

I have learned that you can in fact message your self in the Shortcuts apps.
You can also do a simple notification motion detected directly from the motion sensor in the HomeKit app.
Also, Controller for Homekit app offers some very sophisticated notifications and actions you can take.
Still, I wish someone out there would write a good book or that there was a site where you could go that offered useful HomeKit solutions to share with interested users. Then, everyone would not have to "reinvent the wheel" for themselves to get their homes to do what they want. They could simply follow an example (such as yours) rather than having to learn the hard way.
As I said before not everyone is adept at HomeKit programming.

If your motion sensor has an accompanying App you can install from the App Store, install on your iPhone with the sensor set up in it, then in Notifications- enable that and it should send alerts.
