DON'T attempt to change the account-name. Users who open that pane to make changes often post here later that they are completely and utterly locked out other Mac.

Instead, create a new name that is more to your liking, make it an Admin account, and use the new Admin account to copy over the files from the old account.

if you don't reference the old account after a week or so, you can delete it.

the best way I know is to have Finder open TWO windows, drag them side by side, then drag items between the windows.

to do this, open a finder window and navigate to where you want to, source or destination. resize the window and move it to the LFET side of the screen

Choose New Window from the Finder's File menu. navigate to the destination. line up the windows and choose similar presentation, like List view on each.

select and drag items you want copied from one window to the other.
