I am unable to access an app, it asks me for my username which I presume is my iPhone username. I input it, says it’s incorrect but will not allow me to change it to another. I’ve changed my password several times but it just goes back to username and says it’s an error.

When an app asks you to input your username, then it is a username that you created when you setup that app. I would recommend that you contact the app’s developer (support) team for more information on the behavior by the app.
