Apple email app crashes after upgrade to Ventura 13.2. I've since done a new install of the OS; deleted email accounts; and shut down and waited hours to reboot. To no avail. Any other ideas to fix this? Anyone with same issu

After upgrade to Ventura 13.2, my Apple email app crashes on opening. It's useless. Can anyone help? And I'm sorry for overly long title, which contains my actual set of questions. I haven't done this in a long time.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Thanks! I'll try that if it happens again. In the meantime, I found this from 2 years ago, and it's worked, at least, so far. After I turned my internet accounts off per John Galt's instructions, I launched it successfully. I then opened one account at a time, until the app crashed on one. I was opening it into my junk mail. I deleted it via the web. After that, it's been working fine. Again, thank you for your suggestion!!!!

John Galt
In that case the fix involves removing that Account from your Mac, followed by adding it again. That action will not affect any messages that remain undeleted on the server.
Instructions are described in Add or remove email accounts in Mail on Mac - Apple Support. You will be following them in reverse order—in other words, remove the email account, and then add that same account again.
If you are unable to even open the Mail app due to its crashing immediately upon launch, you may not be able to access Internet Accounts from within Mail as it describes. Instead, amend those instructions as follows:
Click the  (Apple menu) > System Preferences... > Internet Accounts, select the affected account, and then deselect the Mail checkbox for the account. To stop using the account in all apps, make sure the account is selected, then click the Remove button [—].
Please note that merely deselecting the Mail account won't remove it. It just temporarily turns it off in the Mail app, and selecting it again turns it on again in Mail. You need to follow the last (boldface) sentence above to actually remove the account. Adding it again will cause Mail to repopulate its contents. Since messages that remain on the server will be repopulated, you need to find and delete that message first. That can be accomplished through your email service provider's webmail interface, provided it offers one (most do).

I have this same issue. I have tried all of the mentioned troubleshooting steps, multiple times, including removing the two accounts that crash the application when enabled and then re-adding them. For a time, this issue only recurred when accessing the junk mail folder. Now this issue occurs the moment that the accounts are enabled and crashes the mail app instantly if it is already open, and immediately on launch if it is not. Disabling the accounts restores functionality. These are two Cox accounts that I have used for many years. I also cleared the two accounts of all junk-mail (and inbox items) to test if that was solely the cause. This didn't change anything. My iCloud and Gmail accounts are not affected. I have these accounts on my iPhone and they work perfectly there so I am now having to access my device every time I need to check these accounts. This is not an acceptable use scenario. Thank you for any further troubleshooting suggestions that you can offer.

Sorry for getting back to you so late. Had a health issue get in the way, and I just missed this. Have you solved the problem? I've read that some people just delete the accounts on the machine and, with a cleaned up account via web-based mail and a cleaned computer, reboot and add those deleted accounts back. But make sure you back everything up first.
