Facebook reels won't play on my macbook in safari - anyone else have this issue?

On my macbook in the safari browser, the reels on Facebook don't play when I click on them. They load in the page as black rectangles.

Based upon an earlier question someone asked, I tried this:

I went to Safari\Settings for facebook.com\ and unchecked "enable content blockers"

At first this seemed to do nothing and didn't appear to fix the issue. The reels still looked black and were not playing. Then I clicked a few times on the reel and suddenly it loaded and played. Hope this helps someone else.
