Ventura 13 how to turn off display when lid is closed

My external display turns on when notebook lid is closed. I made it primary display. How to leave it primary and turn off it when the lid is closed?

Hi there GuitarFan03,

If you're not seeing an option in display settings as seen in the information below, from the previous article we provided, then you may need to reach out to Apple Support for further assistance:

"Configure display settings

  • From the Apple menu  in the corner of the screen, choose System Settings (or System Preferences), then click Displays. In display settings you can change display resolution, choose a refresh rate, arrange your displays, and more.
  • If the display is not made by Apple, certain settings might be available only by using the display's built-in controls and menu system. Check your display's documentation for details."

Here is the link again for that information: Connect a display to your Mac - Apple Support

If you need to work contact Apple Support, you can reach out with the following link: Contact - Official Apple Support

Regards.

"If you're not seeing an option in display settings"

What option? In previous article never was an option to leave the display off or on when i close my lid. And i think macos doesn't even have this option. Windows has an option what will be done when i close the lid:

Where is this option in macos? Doesn't macos have it? The previous answers didn't give a hint of what I need. I don't know what question was answered before, but definitely not mine.

Hello GuitarFan03,

Could you be using a USB hub by chance? If so, what happens if you remove the USB hub from the set up? Does the issue persist? Have you tested other cables and adapters? You could test it out to be sure, as that would help to isolate the issue further.

You'd want to contact Apple Support about a solution to this, learn how here: Contact Apple Support

They'll need to take it from here.

Hi GuitarFan03,

Try the steps in the link below since your external display turns off when you close the lid to your MacBook Air.

Connect a display to your Mac - Apple Support

To perform the recommended troubleshooting steps via the link above, complete the steps in the section titled "Connect the display to power and your Mac."

1) Use your display's power cable to connect the display to power.
2) Use your display's video cable to connect the display to your Mac, such as to a Thunderbolt  or HDMI port. Different ports might look similar, so it's important to identify the port correctly.
3) If the video cable requires a port that your Mac doesn't have, you might be able to use an adapter with the video cable. Or replace the video cable with one that doesn't require an adapter.
4) When your display has power and is connected properly, your Mac detects the display automatically. You should then see your Mac desktop on the display, and you can configure display settings.

We recommend the steps above because they will show you how to connect an external display and configure the display settings.

Please let us know the outcome after giving the above steps a try.
