Syncing Icloud. Unable to join family plan.

I have 4 Macs + two iPhones, plus a 200gb Apple iCloud and there are three apple accounts sharing the family plan.

Everything shares perfectly across the two Macs running Mojave, and my iPhones running the latest.

My laptop running Monterey no longer allows me to upload my photos to iCloud. It asks me to take out a new subscription.

And yes, it is logged into the right Apple account.

Is this because the some of the latest "features" regarding Photos have dribbled down, preventing me from consolidating images like I used to?

Howdy Timothy Holt,

It sounds like one of your computers is unable to access your iCloud+ family plan. We know how important this is for you, and we will help get you to the right place to find a resolution.

The first thing to try is to make sure Family Sharing is set up correctly on your Mac. This can often resolve this type of issue:

In macOS Monterey or earlier:
1. If you haven't set up Family Sharing yet, set up Family Sharing
2. Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Family Sharing.
3. Click iCloud Storage.
4. Click Share.
5. Follow the onscreen instructions.

This info is located in this support article: Share iCloud+ with your family - Apple Support

If it's set up and still having issues, then check out the If you still can't find shared content section listed in this support article: If you can't find your family's shared content - Apple Support

Take Care!

Hey Timothy Holt,

What happens when you select "Next" in the screenshot you provided in your original post? We ask because it looks like the screen is only asking you to confirm the plan you want.

How much available storage do you have in your 200GB plan? We can see in the screenshot that your Mac is suggesting that you might run out of storage with the current plan selected. Here's how to check: Check your iCloud storage on any device - Apple Support

Hi Timothy Holt,

To make sure we're on the same page, it sounds like the issue overall is the error message that appears on the Mac when you try upgrading, correct? If so, we recommend booting your Mac into safe mode next and then attempting to upgrade the storage. Safe mode will run a basic disk repair and prevents a few items from loading, so it's a good step for an issue like this.

The steps to boot into safe mode will vary depending on your Mac model, so check this link for guidance: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Once you test in safe mode, click Apple menu () > Restart and let us know how it went. Take care.
