iPad Air 3 intermittently won’t connect to Apple TV

Since update to iOS 16 (now up to 16.3) my iPad air3 INTERMITTENTLY won’t connect to my AppleTV which is about 3 meters away, in open view. The remote connects instantly no problem. The error message I see is “can’t connect to AppleTV,..etc. check wifi. Can anyone suggest what is causing this, and what I can do about it.

whether the ipad is connecting via wifi to the remote or direct to the Apple TV box.

The software remote on iPad or iPhone connects through Wi-Fi. The physical Siri Remote connects through Bluetooth. They work independent of each other, they don’t detect each other, and can be used interchangeably.

Distance is not all that important. The connection is not directly, but via the home network, so for many users via the router.

  1. Try a restart of the router, Apple TV box, and iPad, for a fresh attempt.
  2. If the issue persists, then check the home network. There may be sources of interference, possibly from neighboring networks.

I had previously done restart on both the router and my iPad. Now I did the appletv box by unplugging it from the power, and in again, which caused the white light to blink for a few seconds before steady light. I immediately tried to connect the iPad again from the control panel, and it worked. So thank you.

FYI TV OS is 16.2. Recent update.

I have the remote icon on my iPad control panel and normally operate the appletv from there. I confess I am not clear whether the ipad is connecting via wifi to the remote (in may bedside cabinet) or direct to the Apple TV box. Can you tell me? I was puzzled because while the iPad searched fruitlessly for the Apple TV, if I took the remote out of the drawer it would connect instantly.
