Hey there BigDinLV,

We'd be happy to help you revert to the previous version of macOS.

Since Safari is part of macOS, you would have to revert to the previous macOS version. However, in order for you to not lose any files, you'd need to have made a backup prior to updating your Mac.

If you created a backup, use these steps to erase your Mac:

Erase your Mac and reset it to factory settings - Apple Support

Then, use these steps to reinstall macOS: How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support

Finally, restore from that backup: Back up your Mac with Time Machine - Apple Support

Regards.

reverting safari does not work,

here is the pkg from apple servers: https://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/36/08/012-82248-A_SAHUHK0ROJ/z04kizckik61f8z4fzyer6gw9mh50pbm9l/Safari16.2BigSurAuto.pkg

for safari 16.2

however this does not resolve the issue, the whole OS is the problem you would need to make a bootable install of macOS big sur 11.7.2 from some download online & proceed in downgrading your whole system.

I recently did the update first to Big Sur 11.7.3 and then to Safari 16.3 as a second step. All the Safari favicon are totally, an empty box, or a black box. I've tried all the things others have suggested.... they were also unsuccessful. So I am considering trying to roll back to the previous versions of Big Sur and Safari using a previous Time Machine backup but not sure how to proceed.

Your info is for Monterey and later.

Thank you for your responses. Unfortunately the instructions in the links are mainly focused on Monterey and Ventura. I am still running Big Sur. I just "updated" from Big Sur 11.7.2 to 11.7.3 and Safari 16.2 to 16.3 and now my Safari doesn't display favicons anymore--- like a lot of other users. Wished I had waited longer before doing that last update. Reverting back to 11.7.2 and 16.2 seems to be a major effort that might brick my 2019 MacBook Pro 13 if I do something incorrectly.

I was hoping for more detailed step by step guidance.
