Unexpected Error Message when trying to sign in to iCloud backup after updating to iOS 16.3

I have a 13 Pro and I recently updated from 16.2 to 16.3. Afterward I discovered that I was no longer signed into iCloud backup. When trying to sign in I get a message saying “unexpected error occurred, try again later.” I’ve tried restarting and trying to sign in again but I get the same error message. I’m still signed into Find my iPhone however. Any ideas?

Hello Steve M,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. If you’re not able to sign in to your iCloud settings, we can recommend some steps that might help out. If you're connected to a specific Wi-Fi network, try using your cellular network or a different reliable Wi-Fi network. This can help isolate connectivity issues.

You can also try refreshing your network settings. Follow this path: Tap Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before. If you're using iCloud Keychain, these settings are also removed from other signed-in devices.

Once the reset completes, test to see if this error message continues to populate. We hope these steps are helpful. Cheers.

Hi Steve M.,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

Two-factor authentication is the level of security on your Apple ID. It would not not prevent you from signing in to a feature like your backups. Were you able to continue the steps from the previous message?

Check whether you're able to sign in to iCloud.com using your browser.

Continue with additional steps found in If you can't connect or sign in to iCloud - Apple Support.

Regards.

I do not. But here are some oddities. When I called in, the tier one person had the same issue and had not realized it. Next the tier two person mentioned the upgrade to 2 tier authentication as being a possible work around. Finally and the strangest is, while it shows iCloud is off, my stuff is backing up and syncing. He verified my last forced from iTunes was there.
