Spell check is not working, how can I fix it?

How can I get Spell Check in pages to work. None of the three or four functions are working: check document now, check as I type, auto correct.

I sure would like Grammar Check to happen, too, but I sense the spelling and grammar are intrinsically tied.

Spell check weirdness: some words seen as wrong sometimes but not others? Sometimes, for some words, they're marked wrong sometimes but not other times. Also, sometimes for these words, if you right-click on them, there is no option to learn or ignore the word. Let me give you an example of the first problem here: And as for the second problem, when I right-click on say "Harmen" in the "Why, Harmen, why" sentence above, there is no option to ignore/learn.

How to Improve Spell Check? I'm using Monterey, M1, Mac Mini - Spell check in Apple Mail, Text Edit and Messages is awful -- misses obvious errors and/or fails to offer correct options for changing words. Can I keep spellcheck but turn off grammar? Hi. I’m having the worst luck with that annoying blue underline that will absorb a whole paragraph and screw it up beyond belief I’ll often want to drag my finger back up into it and add an “and” or something, but it won’t let me. It forces me to select the whole paragraph and accept its alternative, which is always gibberish. Just a few minutes ago I wrote to a friend “I’m not sure I want to go through with it“ and it wanted me to change it to “I'm I am sure I want to go through in it.” I love the red underline feature where I can click on the word and correct spelling. I’d love to keep that on, but somehow turn the grammar suggestions off. From what I find online, tons of other people do too. Anyone found an answer yet?

What happens when you place a deliberate spelling error in the open document, then open the Edit menu, click Spelling and Grammar, then click Check Document now?

Have you checkmarked the actions you want to occur while you are writing in Pages? My choices are to run the two that are checked in the image below, and to never checkmark the 'auto correct' choice, which gives the spill chucker a free rein.
