Remove Devices from Sound Menu

This seems to be one of those illogical and, looking at the many posts, unsolvable features of Apple systems.

I have several devices on my sounds devices list. Most of which I don't need or will ever use again. It seems such an obvious thing to be able to do but not with Apple. How do I remove devices from that list ? Either bluetooth or AirPlay ?

Any fix appreciated

AirPlay devices. Of course I can tell the OS to "forget" any bluetooth devices. But I have a several AirPlay devices, speakers mainly that the system sometimes decides to default to that I would like to remove from the list to stop that. One in particular that was linked to my Mac Mini, a HomePod, is no longer used or even in the house anymore. But sometimes the system decides its the output for audio......

But thats not the only point of course. The fact that there appears no obvious way of doing what I like on the system is the issue. Removing unwanted AirPlay devices from the list is such a basic operation, certainly in similar circumstances on Linux and Microsoft its strange that Apple seem to have denied that ability

There is probably a cache somewhere with references to these devices. I have to say that I have not experienced this: I only see Airplay devices that are turned on and in the vicinity of my mac.

Restarting in Safe Mode and then restarting normally again may help. It does clear some system caches - but I can’t say if it affects ones rssponsible for this one issue.

It seems that my Sonos Roam SL which I only want to use on BT is also on the Airplay list as well because it can use both. This I suspect is where the issue is being caused as sometimes it is defaulting to the Airplay output NOT the BT. But I'm hoping this is a blip after updating to Ventura 13.2 and obviously restating. Some settings were lost.

However, it would still be desirable to remove Airplay devices, as you can with Bluetooth devices, from the output menu. That way any conflict would be removed
