Can hackers stay on after an iPhone has been transferred?

I had my previous iPhone hacked by classmates. It was remotely bricked by them a few years ago and I had to restore a backup of my iCloud account on a new phone. To this day I still have odd things happen to my phone such as browser tabs being opened on their own. Were they able to transfer the virus over when I switched phones? I’ve also frequently heard them talking through both my old iPhone and new iPhone when no app was open.

There are no iPhone viruses in the wild.

If your old phone was "hacked" make sure you have changed your AppleID password since then, but no remote "hacker" can do things like open browser tabs.
