MAIL folder in LIBRARY

I noticed that Mail was taking up a lot of space on my new Studio hard drive.

I went to LIBRARY and opened MAIL and found a file called V10 which is 125GB.

Zowie, that is big.

CAN I DELETE THAT?

Will it harm anything?

Will it delete emails from the Google server? (I doubt it, but I've got to ask)

No. It'll delete all of you emails, On my Mac mailboxes, etc. Go thru the V10 folders and see if there are any unusually large folders and see what's in them taking up the space. I had a similar problem about 3 or so years ago and found out that every time I rebuild mailboxes I create a large file. It's been fixed since then so it may not be the same. I've been going thru my records and am unable to find what I'm referring to.

RESULT.

I thought I would try deleting on my old iMac 27 first, to test the waters.

1 I went to LIBRARY > MAIL > V4 file > Then I found the biggest memory folder in there. Deleted it.

2 The trash can then had 350,000 items. They were deleted, I restarted the computer.

3 The trash can, on its own, out of the blue, deleted another 200,000 items.

RESULT, my iMac 27 Mail storage went from 67GB to 164mb.

I hope I can repeat the results on my new Studio.

Thanks for all the help.

THANKS.

1 How can I reduce the size of that file. That seems way way large.

2 Can I go inside and cherry pick files to delete? (I group emails by the month, since 2010, with about 200 per month).

3 My goal is to a) make sure all my emails stay on the Google server, and B) delete emails saved on my Mac, which I presume will reduce that 125GB to something logical.

Further, I have a late 2017 iMac 27, and a new Studio.

The 27 has these two files under MAIL

V2 = 11KB

V4 = 56GB

The Studio has a V2 and V10 file. The V10 is 125GB.

OVERARCHING QUESTION, why is that stored on my computer. I thought it was supposed to be stored on the internet?

Final question. A lot of files in there end with "plist". Can they be deleted? I fear they will be inside some files tat I might delete.

I migrated to the new Studio a month ago. It's seems odd that MAIL in the new Studio is more than twice the size of the old 27.

Thanks.
