Do I understand correctly that by updating my iPhone to iOS 16.3 it can only communicate with my Mac Studio if I update the Studio to Ventura even though much of my software still can't run on Ventura?

I just updated my iPhone while it was connected to my Studio running Monterey. When the iPhone came back online there was a prompt on the Studio saying in order to work with the iPhone I had to update the Studio software. As I'm up to date on the latest Monterey version the only update possible would be to Ventura which I simply cannot afford to do since the software I use for my business is not reliable on Ventura yet.
However it now seems I can still connect the iPhone to the Studio and it is recognized ok.
I'm a little sick of Apple constantly forcing entirely new OS' on us before third party vendors can catch up.

Did the message specifically say you must update to Ventura, or did it simply say an update is required?

If it simply said an update is required, follow the prompts to install that update (not the Ventura MacOS upgrade). These updates are device updates, not MacOS updates. It takes a few minutes and will not affect your MacOS being Monterey, which you can continue using.

In fact the System Specifications for the newest iPhone 14 Pro allow it to be used with much older MacOS than Monterey:

System Requirements

  • Apple ID (required for some features)
  • Internet access
  • Syncing to a Mac or PC requires:
    • macOS Catalina 10.15 or later using the Finder
    • macOS El Capitan 10.11.6 through macOS Mojave 10.14.6 using iTunes 12.8 or later
    • Windows 7 or later using iTunes 12.10.10 or later (free download from itunes.com/download)

A complete misunderstanding on my part. I'd even delete the entire thread but maybe my mistake will of help to others as dumb as I am.

Subsequent to updating my iPhone to 16.3 a prompt (attached) came up on my Studio screen but I was extremely reticent to allow the "Install" since I was afraid it was going to switch OS on me. There was nothing in the Software Update other than Ventura, i.e. no explicit update to Monterey so I ignored it.

Thanks for the explanation and patience with me, steve626.
