power LED light turns on but turns off halfway and then turns on again

Every time I shutdown my Mac Studio M1 Max and unplug the power cord, the next time I try to turn it on, the power LED light turns on but turns off halfway and then turns on again. The startup sound also got cut off midway. If the machine is already connected to the electrical power, when turning off and on again this behavior does not happen.

I’ve already run the diagnostic tools (command+D) and it didn't find any hardware issues. I called Apple, They didn’t know what is the problem, they think it is a SMC reset.

I noticed this has been happening after macOS Montrey 12.6.2 update

I am afraid if there's a hardware issue. Is there anything that can be done to help resolve this problem? Thank you in advance.

Hi everybody,

After a lot of research on this subject, I discovered that this behavior is due to a rare problem when updating the Mac Studio (or any other Mac) firmware.

Whenever we install a new version of macOs, the computer's firmware is eventually updated, usually when it has security updates and always when it's a major release.

To update the firmware and make the machine no longer have this behavior, there are 2 ways.

1 - Updating macOS to a version that updates the firmware. For example, if you're running macOS Montrey, upgrading to macOS Ventura will solve the problem (which is what I did), once Ventura has a different firmware version, and will update and fix the problem;

2 - If you are already on the latest version of macOS Ventura, and there are no more updates that can update the firmware, you will need to do a procedure called "revive device". You can google this term, you will find Apple's own documentation explaining this:

Revive or restore a Mac with Apple silicon using Apple Configurator - Suporte da Apple (BR).

You will need 2 Macs with Apple Slicon chip connected via USB. So you need to install Assistant 2 on the machine that doesn't have the problem, and the machine with DFU problem will run the "Revive device" option. Once this is done, an update will be made to the Mac's firmware and the problem will disappear.

Note - If you want to do a clean install in the same macOS version you are, it won't work out... a validation of the current firmware version will be done and since it is the same version, the installation will not update the firmware again.

If you didn't want to do this procedure, out of conscience, you can rest assured that this is not a hardware problem and can be solved whenever you update the firmware.

I hope I helped everyone, and were relieved. Anything you can ask here and I'll try to answer.
