Find my iPhone losing connection even though shared indefinitely

Why does my phone keep loosing a link with a number I’m connected on find my iPhone? Both connections are shared indefinitely but after a few hours it will drop out and although I can see the location of the person I’m connected to, they can’t see me? We have both got new phones recently and even that hasn’t rectified it. We have been linked for years without issue, it’s just a recent problem that has occurred and we can’t work out why one phone will just randomly lose connection with the other. One phone is shared via Apple ID, the other by a number. Can anyone help?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. You've tried some great steps so far. We'd recommend the guidance from Find people and share your location with Find My. In particular, the sections below will help make sure that you both are sharing location from the correct device and sharing via satellite (iPhone 14) to allow connection without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage may help.

"Change your sharing device

To change the device that you're sharing your location from, open Find My on the device from which you want to share. Select the Me tab, then choose Use this [device] as My Location."

"Share your location via satellite

On iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro with iOS 16.1 or later, you can also share your location via satellite when you're somewhere without cellular and Wi-Fi coverage. To share your location via satellite with someone, you need to already be sharing your location with that person in Find My before you're outside of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage.

You can update your location via satellite every 15 minutes."
