The picture I have added as my lock screen default wallpaper looks fine when setting up the wallpaper menu, but does not show once the screen is locked ... do you know what is going on?

Check if your iPhone is running the latest iOS version (16.3). Shouldn't be this case, please update it.
If the issue persists, and if you already tried (to no avail) all the steps provided in these two support pages:--> Change the wallpaper on your iPhone and/or:--> Personalize your iPhone Lock Screen, I suggest that you contact Apple support directly, using this link:--> Contact Apple for support and service
