Why does dictation stop working
Dictation stops working unexpectedly. I have to log out and log back in to reset.
Sometimes it will work for several hours or minutes, other times it works for days.

Hey Grumpy.grandad,
Let's try the following steps:
•Be sure Dictation is turned on in the Keyboard settings.
Note: If you can’t turn on Dictation, Screen Time Content & Privacy Restrictions may be preventing you from using it. A family organizer for a Family Sharing group can set up Screen Time for a child and restrict access to Siri & Dictation. See Change App Restrictions settings in Screen Time. Also, when Voice Control is on, you can’t use Dictation.
•Choose the correct language and dialect. See Dictate messages and documents.
•Be sure you’re using the correct dictation keyboard shortcut.
•Be sure your system has a valid internet connection—choose Apple menu> System Settings, then click Network
in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
You can find this information from the user guide this: If Dictation on Mac doesn’t work as expected
We hope this helps!
Best regards.
I suppose it's a matter of preference.
I like the fact the dictation automatically turns off if I touch keyboard. Voice control humiliated me by entering when I didn't want something entered.
Dictation turns off automatically it's a matter of tapping the keyboard to activate it
. Also when you pay that much money for a Computer I expect it to work as designed.
Dictation is set up just as you have advised. But for some reason it just quits working. The only way to get it restarted is to log out and log back in. Sometimes I even have to restart the computer.
Agree 100%. Both dictations work great when they're working. But Apple has yet to fix many longstanding problems. (Capitalizing when Pausing, anyone?)
