100K login.keychain-db.sb files!

Mac Mini M1 running Ventura, and my Keychains folder has 100K+ files like this, login.keychain-db.sb-bce1b57e-UKPLiv, with new ones created every minute. What is going on, and how to stop? Thanks all.

Hi Laxosaurus,

Thanks for being part of Apple Support Communities. We'd understand that you're having issues with your login files for your Keychain. We'd like to help.

Have you restarted your Mac mini since you noticed this issue? Does the issue persist after that? While a restart is a simple step, it can help when things are working as expected.

Restart your Mac
* On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Restart.

If you don’t want app windows that are open to reopen when your Mac restarts, deselect “Reopen windows when logging back in.”

If a restart doesn't help, try to boot into safe mode to see if the files continue to create on their own every minute. This mode will check your start up directory for error and stop login items from loading.

These steps will walk you through it:

How to use safe mode
Determine whether you're using a Mac with Apple silicon, then follow the appropriate steps:

Apple silicon
1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Intel processor

1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window.

Once you do that, check to see if the issue continues or not. Once you have a good answer, this link will walk you through what to do in both scenarios: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Hope that helps.

Cheers!
