Why in the world are files being added to my Keychain Folder at the rate of approximately 5 per minute? The folder has grown to 120 GB, and free space on my one-terabyte internal drive (solid-state kind) is down to 12 GB. Explanations and solutions will be gratefully welcomed!

We want to help figure out what might be going on so that your storage doesn't get too out of control. Do you use any other Apple devices that could be synced to the same Apple ID, by chance? We're wondering if it's possible that you are syncing your Desktop and Documents files via iCloud Drive. This could explain where those documents are coming from, if they are syncing from another device. This is especially likely if you recently signed into your Apple ID on a new or different Mac than you usually use.

Thank you for your good will and promising ideas. Yes, at least two other devices of mine are syncing to the same Apple ID, and yes, some file sharing is supposed to happen. You've given me a new direction for my troubleshooting.
Meanwhile, since my posting, I have contacted Apple support directly and with their help have freed up over 100 GB on that drive. The crisis of low space has thus been fixed, at least temporarily.
But the /Keychains/ file on the drive continues to grow as something keeps trying to logon to the O.S. Small files, each the same size, about 350 MB, are being added, each with the name login.keychain-db.sb-????????-?????? .
It's like a tumor growing on my internal drive!
