Internal crack MacBook Air M2

Purchased a MacBook Air 14 inch M2 laptop on Black Friday 2022 for use in my work on the road this year. Literally my first remote job this past weekend, turned the computer on Monday morning to vertical and horizontal lines on the display, now covering about 3 inches on the left side and 3 inches on the bottom. This is about my 12th Apple laptop since 2000, and have seen cracks resulting from closing the lid on an object like a camera memory card so I’m very careful not to do this and am certain that I did not do it this time. The people at the Apple “genius” bar told me this repair is not under warranty and will cost me about a third the price if the computer, which is pretty frustrating , especially since I have no recourse and need to get the computer back online ASAP. My bigger concern is that since this is a new design, this my be an ongoing design issue and may recur. Has anyone else had similar issues with the new 14 inch MacBook air? If so, has anyone had any productive interaction with Apple?
