Canon Scanner: "Failed to open a connection to the device (-21345)"

My Canon Pixma 3222 worked fine w/ my 2011 MacBook, but I can't get the scanner to work with my newer Macbook Air (2020). It prints, but it won't scan. I get the error message: "Failed to open a connection to the device (-21345)."

I'm using it while connected via USB.

I logged into the IP address and disabled ipv6, per one person's recommendation, and turned off and back on the printer, but it still doesn't work. I also tried downloading the latest IJ Network Tool, but that doesn't help either.

Using Mac Ventura 13.1.

Canon claims they don't support this printer anymore and won't provide any advice.
