Apple Mail Problems w/Gmail

I've been trying to fix this for a couple of months now. I have four Gmail accounts set up in my Apple Mail, and one of them won't go online. The others are perfectly fine. When I try to take it online, it tells me I need to authenticate it in Safari, and so I click OK, but it immediately comes back with another popup saying it failed to authenticate with Google, try again later. I even tried to add another google account, and it gives me the same message. When I'm in Safari separate from Apple Mail, I'm able to login to my Gmail account no problem.

When this first started happening a couple of months ago, when it told me it needed to authenticate in Safari, it would actually pull up my account in Safari via a pop up, but when I tried to log in, it would tell me it couldn't find the server, try again later.

I appreciate the help.

See if this is it...

Mac's Mail App is not as modern as iOS's Mail app, Many eMail providers now require a separate App Password different from your eMail password…

It may just need an App Password separate from the gMail password…

This is so frustrating. For every solution that looks like it could work, there's something that prevents it from working. I tried the app password solution. But when I pull up mail accounts, and go to server settings to replace the password with the app password that was generated, there's no place to put in a password. All it shows is "outgoing mail account", there's nothing for incoming. The instruction page in google looks completely different than the account info that actually comes up for me. I'm looking everywhere as to where I would actually enter a password for this account, and can't find anything. I even went into Help for Mail. It just says the settings that I see vary depending on the account type. (incidentally, my account that is a POP server looks like what google shows I should see for the IMAP server.

This is very frustrating.

That's what the instructions that google gave me said to do.

When I go into google, it tells me the devices authorized to use my account, and my iMac shows up, and says it's been inactive for 79 days (when my account went off line). Do you think it would work if in google, I signed out of the device; and then signed back in?

I have the actual password, that's not the problem.

It's a moot point, I just ordered a new Mac Studio, and get it in a couple of weeks. This one is almost 10 years old, and having other issues more serious than the gmail issue. I'm sure once I get the new Mac and set up Apple mail, this problem won't exist. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for your help ,though, I appreciate your time.
