Connecting two Mac minis

I have a 2012 Mac mini and just recently bought the new m2 Mac mini. My question, is there a way to connect both Mac minis together to one monitor. The purpose in doing so is that I have an drawing app on my old Mac mini that is not available on my new Mac mini (since the macosx are different).

In other words can you be selective as to which Mac mini to boot up to while using one monitor?

Or is it better just to get another monitor and just treat them as two separate computers?

Connect the M2 Mac mini to the HP using an HDMI cable.

Connect the 2012 Mac mini to the display using either a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter and a DVI cable or a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter and a VGA cable.

Then just switch the displays input source between HDMI and DVI or VGA depending on which Mac mini you want to use.
