Advanced settings in iOS 16 has disappeared

Hi All, the question has been asked before, but unfortunately stayed unanswered.

The problem is in iOS 16 there is no:

settings > Mail > Accounts > account > Advanced

The advanced item has been removed from that screen. I know where to look for it, it used to be all the way at the bottom of that screen (so yes, I did scroll down, it's just not there)

I'm pretty sure it was already missing in previous versions of iOS as well, but I'm not sure between which and which version it exactly happened.

What I do know is that I had S/MIME setup previously and after my certificate expired and I tried to add a new one my real problems started. Even without the option in the screen it should have been as easy as updating the profile with the new cert, but no. Every time I now want to compose a new message on my iOS 16 iPhone I am greeted with the following message:

When clicking settings, the general "Settings" app will open at the main screen with no indication on where to actually correct the signing identity as suggested in the above dialog box.

I checked various other devices/accounts on iOS 16 and non of them seem to have the "Advanced" menu item anymore.

Is this a bug? Is it ommited by default? Has the menu item been moved to some other location? (I have searched pretty thoroughly, but do not rule out I have overlooked ;-)

Last option I guess would be to remove the @mac.com account from the device completely and reinstall but I do want to keep that as a last resort.. It will be quite a hassle to re-sync everything, not looking forward to that..

TIA Guru's

  1. Is this your corporate iPhone? Then please contact the system administrator of your corporate
  2. If it is your personal device, in that case, do you have any profile installed by your corporate/organisation/enterprise/School Management?
    1. Erase the profile added by you If you have installed a profile on your own --> Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone - Apple ...
    2. Or please contact the system administrator of the organisation who provided the profile to you

  1. No, personal iPhone
  2. No, profile installed by myself (using the trick to email the certificate to oneself clicking the certificate, and then get the dialog to install the profile, follow the steps give the passphrase) and all should be well.. The profile installs and de-installs just fine, tried it multiple times while troubleshooting..

The first couple of certificates that I had on this account were issued by Comodo

however the current cert is issued by Actalis.

This is most likely the cause of the "signing Identity" dialog that I'm getting.

However in the past that would be easily corrected by going into the advanced settings and pointing to the correct certificate. The core of the issue is that the menu item for Advanced is just not there anymore.

Are you saying that you do have that menu item on your iOS 16 device?
