Macube Cleaner - /Applications/Macube Cleaner.app/ -- ⚠️

MacCube Cleaner should be removed. Mac computers do not need any sort of anti-virus or cleaning software. These "utilities" can cause performance issues, security issues, and make macOS appear buggy. Your Mac is worse with these types of Apps installed.

disk0 - APPLE HDD ST1000DM003 1.00 TB (Mechanical - 7200 RPM) -- ⚠️
Performance:
Write speed: 83 MB/s
Read speed: 108 MB/s

However, the main reason your iMac is slow is due to the 7200-rpm hard drive. While this hard drive found in your Mac is perfectly suited to light tasks, such as email, web browsing, etc., for more advanced tasks, and for users who want the maximum performance from their Mac, this hard drive does have its limitations. Luckily, you can use an external SSD as your startup disk to run macOS and all your data from that. It will make your Mac 10 to 40 times faster for storage, and in turn, make your entire Mac system much faster. For more info, instructions, and what external SSD to buy, please see: How to Setup and Use an External SSD as your Startup Disk on a Desktop Mac - Apple Community.

Welcome Don!

What sub-model iMac, including screen size? Those are in "About this Mac..." under your Apple menu:

That's important because Apple used a variety of drive options—some slow—depending on sub-model. And this:

...I brought memory up to 24 but not very much improvement.

suggests you have a drive problem, not a RAM problem. If a base-level unit with a mech hard drive, 21.5-inch iMacs made from 2012 through 2019 are constrained by a slow and under-spec drive.

Download and run Etrecheck.  Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support  to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

Copy the report

and use the Additional Text button to paste the report in your reply.

Then we can evaluate the report to see if we can determine the cause of the problem.
