Email read on ios device not read in Outlook

We have an Exchange 2010 server and use Outlook 2007 as the client. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max running ios 16.2. My question us why is it that email marked as read on my iPhone does not get marked as read in Outlook on my pc, but it does work the other way around (from outlook to my iPhone). Other users don’t appear to have the same problem, so that would seem to point to my phone. We are in the process of moving to a 365 environment, but I’d like to fix this as it’s creating double work. Thank you.
