To use a USB Type-A Yubikey with your iPad Pro 10.5, you must first update to iPadOS 16.3 or later.
You will also require a Lightning to USB Type-A adapter - the most useful of which is the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter:

Don’t be fooled by the name. This adapter has both a USB3 Type-A port and a Lightning pass-through power connector - allowing you to simultaneously connect your Power Adapter to the iPad. While the Yubikey requires very little power, other USB accessories (such as USB storage) require more power than the iPad alone can supply.
Alternatively, you can also use the cheaper and functionally more limited Lightning to USB Camera Adapter:

This second adapter has a much slower USB 2.0 interface - and and lacks the versatility to connect the majority of USB storage devices.

Hi Miketrud226,
We see you have a question about using an adapter to connect a USB-A security key to an iPad. This link has some great information About Security Keys for Apple ID and may help.
"USB-A

USB-A connectors work with older Mac models, and can work on newer Mac models with a USB-C-to-USB-A adapter."
"USB-C

USB-C connectors work with most Mac models, and can work with iPhone with a Lightning-to-USB-C adapter."
The text above mentions the possibility of using a USB-C-to-USB-A adapter with Mac, but the article does not provide anything specific about doing the same with an iPad. Your best bet would be to either use a compatible USB-C security key instead, or you could check with the manufacturer to see if they can shed any light on whether you can use their security key with an adapter: Contact a third-party vendor - Apple Support
Take care.
