screenshot image display

FIXED but 'not solved'

Bizarre = I noticed older files were also ‘changing’ from an ‘image’ to an ‘icon’ as described/shown above = how and why was this happening !!

I tried Com-OPT-5 then “Options” and 

“Show Floating Thumbnail” was already checked.

( It’s totally worthless to have “screenshots” without an image !)

I searched web with Safari/Duck and found nothing about this ??

Excellent detailed descriptions about screenshots but nothing about

what to do when this happens  (  again, ‘am I the only one’ ? ?)

So I ran Disk Utility through ‘ everything ’ and again no problems found.

Then I simply did a restart and went to dinner.

Returned and the ‘image’ shows up in screenshot and 

Now all the ‘images’ are back for  all the past “screenshots” !

No idea what happened = this is 2nd time this has occurred.

All ‘fixed’ with a simple ‘Restart’ ? What’s causing it to happen …

ex  Another ‘problem’ I thought was separate that suddenly occurred 

but seems to have cleared up  with restart , and reason I did another

Utility check up is that it was taking 4 clicks to open files 

( normal = click twice and file opens ). ??

I’m dealing with other problems that should be extremely easy to fix

yet I cannot even find a “Help topic “. 

I'm guessing "normal people" don't even use computers anymore ....

What to do with “ Preview ” ?

Go to Applications > open Preview > open Preferences

and here’s what u get :

General is open : u have 1 choice here = change the “ Window background ” .

next open Images :

and the final choice is :

another “Preference” that doesn’t help solve the problem :

why are  the ’ images’ not being  presented  by screenshot files .

Am I in a coma and dreaming this or is this “ real “ ?

There is usually confusion in the whirlwind of a problem .

Maybe the next time I have this problem I’ll find this !

What is the “real subject / topic “ here ?

Is the problem with “ screenshots “ or “ Preview “ ?

Are “ png “ and  “ jpg “  “ screen images “ on the desktop ,

and is “ jpg “  the same as “ jpeg “ ? Details (as they say ).

Sometimes an ‘ image ‘  ( which I call “ pic “ for  an image that might be a photo 

or ( a photo of a painting or drawing ) or a graph, or a map …will be a ’png’ or ‘jpg’  or “ TIFF “

iow, I may have changed the kind of file in the past because some Window using friend 

couldn’t open a jpeg in their Email. 

So then, a “screenshot “ is ‘made/ created by pressing  the  Command key + Option key + 4

at the same time, then u will be able to ’ take a snapshot ‘ of your ’screen’ or anything on your screen.

More confusing than the Bible ! U can call it a “screenshot”, or ’snapshot’ or ‘dng’ or ‘pic’ or just 

make up something that helps u understand what’s going on, but remember, other people get to 

call ‘images’ on the screen whatever they want also ….

So technically this topic  might/maybe/ should be called “Preview Image Display “ — but I’m not an expert,

just a ‘user’ , and trying to use a Lion ( but I prefer Panthers ) , with Mavericks  in Monterey who want

to go to some new location every few months , it gets confusing, sorry .

I started with an 8in bw screen with a floppy disk drive back in the 20th century !

( and I worked at Honeywell Computers in Boston in 1968 - I’ve literally been INSIDE a computer ! )
