No sound when connecting IPad Pro to Dell Monitor

I am getting no sound when connecting a IPad Pro 2022 (11 inch M2 chip)to a a Dell UltraSharp Monitor-U2422HE using a USB-C cable. The monitor does not have speakers as I hoped to use IPad speakers or, as last resort, a Bluetooth speaker. Neither work.

Hey Dublin_1,

I have the same monitor and the same issue. I found a solution though, you need to use a bluetooth headphone or speaker. Connect the bluetooth speaker or headphone to your ipad, then, after you connect your iPad to the monitor with a HDMI cable, go to the control center, on the top right corner you will see the audio output options. Tap on it and there you will the option to select your bluetooth device. I hope this helps!

Many thanks Hc1111. Yes, sound works ok without display connected and the sound is defaulting to the monitor (which doesn’t have speaker) when connected. However, I expected to see IPad speakers as an option when connected. It seems that I will have to invest in separate speakers because of IOS16 design flaw.

Hey there Dublin_1,

To clarify, are you able to hear sound as expected from your iPad without the display connected? If so, this sounds like it's expected since the display does not have speakers and the sound would default there.

If you do end up having trouble with the sound on your iPad as well, you'll want to continue here next: If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker - Apple Support

Take care!
