Direct Connecting Time Capsule to iMac

I am trying to connect my old time capsule directly to my iMac since I no longer use it as a router. It is blinking amber and I have hit the reset button in the back. Any advice?

It sounds like you may be thinking of connecting the Time Capsule to your iMac the same way that you would connect a USB hard drive to the iMac. That is not going to work, because the Time Capsule is a network drive that must connect to your Wi-Fi router.

Specifically, the Time Capsule must connect to your Wi-Fi router using a wired Ethernet cable connection. The cable connects from one of the LAN Ethernet ports on the Wi-Fi router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule.

Then.....your iMac can connect to the Time Capsule from one of the 3 LAN <--> Ethernet ports on the Time Capsule to your iMac. Turn off the Wi-Fi on your iMac to insure that the connection will be over the wired Ethernet cable.

If you have reset the Time Capsule back to its default settings, you will need to set it up again.
