is apple-touch-icon has to be located in root directory?

I specified a link to the apple-touch-icon on our website, but a 500 error occurs.

<link rel="apple-touch-icon" sizes="192x192" href="/static/global/favicon/apple-icon.png?ver=20191121">

As above, the file was uploaded on the static path for apple-touch-icon, but it does not work properly.

When adding to the home screen in safari, should the image file always be in the root directory?
