Iphone wont let me mark some of my text messages as unread for some reason, but will mark them as unread for others. why is it doing that? It shows marked as unread, but then I close and reopen texts, and it’s not marked as unread anymore.

Thanks for confirming that. If you mark an iMessage as unread, then open it again, this would mark it as read, because you just opened it again. This would be expected behavior. The whole purpose behind this feature is to be able to read a message, but then mark it as unread as a reminder to go back to it later and respond.
