Solving permissions problems accessing LAN Mac Mini server from iMac.

I have set up a small business/home Local Area Network using a Mac Mini as a File Server connected to a WiFi router directly by Ethernet Cable. Due to initial Permissions Problems accessing the Mac Mini files I had to Partition the SSD storage of the Mini to create a virtual Disk Drive called “Server”. I designated Server to “Ignore ownership on this volume” as per the following screenshot from the Mac Mini.

We keep Personal & Business Files that we need to share in this Server drive. Attached to the Mac Mini are 2 external hard drives, one for Time Machine and the other for Archived Files. Access is via WiFi from our various computers, 2 late model 24” iMacs and 2 x MacBook Pros. All are running the latest Mac OS Ventura 13.1 except for one of the MacBooks which is too old to allow this.

It appears (perhaps coincidentally) that since upgrading to Ventura we have been experiencing various problems editing, deleting and overwriting files and folders, saved in Server, from our iMacs.

An example of this follows. I am unable to trash an unwanted (duplicate) folder, “230308 Guardian Rouse Hill TO TRASH”, from my iMac.

On my (Rod’s) iMac, Server Permissions appear as such:

When attempting to trash "230308 Guardian Rouse Hill TO TRASH" I get the following message:

Get Info on 230308 Guardian Rouse Hill TO TRASH folder reads:

Contents of 230308 Guardian Rouse Hill TO TRASH folder:

Strangely, I was able to Trash the DELIVERY FORMS folder. I was previously not permitted to do this!

Attempt to trash IMAGES Folder”

Attempt to Trash GROUP WORKING IMAGES folder:

I appear to have permission to “Read & Write” and presumably delete these folders, which are all empty, but I am being denied. When attempting to trash PAPERWORK PDFS and PHOTO DAY KIT folders I am met with the same denial.

When I log into the Mac Mini as “miniserver” and share the screen I get the following:

Get Info on 230308 Guardian Rouse Hill TO TRASH

Get Info on IMAGES folder:

Get Info on GROUP WORKING IMAGES folder:

I know I can easily delete these folders when sharing the screen of the Mac Mini (It doesn’t have a screen attached directly) but I shouldn’t have to do this. I want the Server drive to be as accessible and editable as if it was an external hard drive attached directly to our iMacs.

Unfortunately, the problem is not just restricted to trashing files otherwise I might just put up with it. What, to me, should be simple processes are somehow being complicated by ownership and permission problems. I hope someone experienced with this can take pity on me and help me solve it because it is driving me crazy.

Thank you Grace2211. It appears that the the problems I was experiencing were due to a known "bug" with MacOS Ventura. These problems have thankfully gone since upgrading to Mac OS 13.2.1 at the recommendation of an Apple Support member. Unfortunately, this upgrade has now made any external disc drives attached to the Mac Mini inaccessible over the network. Hoping this new bug will be corrected in the next upgrade.
