open a mkv file
What do I need to do to open a .mkv file? All previous posts and questions are from long ago and I need current information . Running Ventura 13.2 on my iMac and have a iPhone SE running 16.3

If the MKV file has compatible codecs (H2.64, H.265 video; AAC, AC-3 audio), then you can re-package¹ it in an MP4 container, which would likely be playable in QuickTime Player. ¹E.g. using ffmpeg, ffWorks, or Subler.
